19 In a Row

The Detroit Red Wings won their nineteenth straight game at Joe Louis Arena yesterday, which is a franchise record for home-wins in a row.  They are one home-win short of the NHL record shared by the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins.  Oddly enough, Detroit's next home game is tomorrow....against the Flyers.  You can imagine there might be a little extra tension in the already rough sport.  And not only is the record on the line, but both teams are in the run the playoffs right now, which are less than 30 games away.

If the season were to end now, both would make the playoffs, but the Flyers would barely make it as a wildcard team because the Rangers lead their division.  Obviously there are still a decent amount of games left, but now is the point in the season when teams really start grinding, especially during road games.  That makes Sunday's game even more interesting, but hopefully Detroit can tie the record and keep the streak going.

Go Wings!

  1. Hard fought game, and congratulations to the Wings, I be they will break their record seeing as their next game is against the Stars (28-24-3) who are not currently in play-off position. The Wings have a balanced attack and emphasize excellent team work and exemplify a unified team. They get production from many of their players and appear to be the best in the league, although the Rangers would probably give them a run for their money. Too bad the next game should be a very winnable one. I look forward to seeing this team play in the post-season for they really do mesh well. I like the statistics added to the post, and look forward to the future play of the Wings although I'm a Rangers fan.
